July 2025
Dear Temps!
Happy Canada Day to all of you.
It’s my favourite stat holiday of the year! To celebrate I am sharing with you the video created by the CBC Marketing and Communications department to promo our coverage. I think it captures the spirit of Canada.
Being part of the CBC for all these years has allowed me to get to know our country better and I am very grateful for that.
Thank you to those of you who are working on July 1st so your colleagues can have the day off. We would not be able to enjoy our day off without all of you backfilling us while we are away. Your efforts to make sure we keep the shows running and the websites updated is very much appreciated.
I hope you get to spend the day doing something you love (even if you are working) and take a moment to marvel at how lucky we are to be here.
Have a good one eh!

Virtual Celebration for 2025 Mentorship Program for Temps and Early Career Employees:
On June 24th, 2025 we gathered to celebrate the latest group to complete the Mentorship Project for Temps and Early Career Employees. This year, we had 7 branches of this program with 28 pairs of Mentors and Mentees. CBC Vice-President Barbara Williams and Executive Director of Equity and Engagement Nicky Davis joined the celebration, along with the managers for each of the locations/departments that participated in the program, to cheer on the participants and hear about their experiences.
Many mentees talked about what a rewarding experience it was, saying “I felt like a priority;” “It helped me find a path forward;” and “I was grateful for the amount of knowledge that was shared with me.” Most mentees also mentioned that the confidence they gained over the last six months helped them grow and develop in their jobs to try new things and some even landed permanent work.
Mentors shared how rewarding it was for them to feed off the energy and passion of their mentees, saying “It was so much fun and it reminded me of why we want to be in news;” “The future of the CBC is bright;” and “It reminded me that navigating the CBC can be hard.”
Both mentors and mentees mentioned “I hope to continue the relationship” which speaks to the long lasting bonds that the program has created to support the participants in their career journeys at the CBC.
Please take a moment to congratulate the participants of the 2025 Mentoring Project listed below.
We are excited to announce the 2026 Mentorship Project will include the Atlantic bureaus. The application process opens up in November. If you are interested in finding out more about the program in your region, please speak to the Coordinators for each of the locations/departments listed below.

July Temp Drop-in | Tricky conversations: How to say what you want without burning bridges :
Have you ever been in a situation where you have two shows competing to have you work for them at the same time? Not sure how to take one opportunity without upsetting the show leader of the gig you reject?
Temps face these types of awkward scenarios often and they are difficult to navigate because Temps often feel vulnerable - as if any misstep will cost you future work opportunities. We want to help you navigate these types of scenarios with some best practices for constructive conversations. Our experts for this conversation bring a wealth of personal experience on how to have these conversations without negative repercussions.

Temp Project going on summer vacation
A heads up that I will be out of the office starting July 21st to August 8th. This summer I am heading east to New Brunswick to visit friends and camp at Kouchibouguac National Park. If you have any urgent inquiries while I am away, please send them to Temp-Project@cbc.ca. Diana Siewdyal will be monitoring the emails and will help direct you to the appropriate person.
Wishing you all a very good summer.
