As It Happens has an exciting opportunity for an experienced producer. If you love national and international current affairs, thrive on connecting with the people at the centre of stories, and enjoy the occasional quirky interview, you may be a good fit.
We are seeking a full-time producer to join the team for four months, ideally from early December until March 28th, 2026. The schedule is Monday to Friday, and the job is based in Toronto.
About the Show
As It Happens is our flagship evening current affairs program on Radio One. Hosted by Nil Köksal and Chris Howden, the show focuses on the big stories of the day that matter to Canadians, from anywhere in the world. At the core of As It Happens is the promise to hear from the people most affected, whether that is families living with no power after Hurricane Melissa, or the rancher forced to wrangle a runaway steer off the highway, on horse.
About the Role
This opportunity is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is a prolific chaser, and particularly loves the challenge of finding people who are not in any contact database. Familiarity with our JSP is essential, and digital skills are an asset.
You will be expected to do the following:
Pitch stories daily
Chase and book guests for today’s show
Produce research, intros and q-lines
Oversee the interview in studio
Edit and deliver the segment
Source and edit other tape elements
If you’ve always wanted to work on As It Happens, here’s your chance. You can apply by sending an expression of interest email to Executive Producer Austin Webb with the subject header EOI - As It Happens. Please share why you’re interested in this role, what qualities you have that make you a good fit for the show, and attach your resume. We also ask that you tell your manager that you are applying for this opportunity so they’re not surprised should you be the successful candidate.
Submissions will be accepted until Monday Nov. 24th at 5pmET
Thank you for your interest in As It Happens. Good luck!
