Job Alert & Expression of Interest Opportunities
UPCOMING SESSION - AUG 28, 2025
Temp Drop-in | Feedback Session with Alex Brockman
We all want feedback on how we are doing in our work but are often afraid to ask for it. And sometimes we are unsure how to receive feedback, especially when it is critical or negative. In this session we tackle how to get feedback effectively to help you grow and develop your skills. This is a timely workshop because in September Temps can opt-in to the process for My Priorities and Development to kick start a conversation for feedback with your supervisor.
Alex Brockman is now an Executive Producer of Video Streaming which includes the FAST teams. He started out as a Temp Web Writer in Windsor and has worked in Yellowknife doing every job in the building and then moved into a leadership role when he became the Executive Producer in Thunder Bay. In this session of the Temp Drop-in Alex shares advice on how and when to request feedback and how to use that feedback effectively to move towards your career goals.

Temp Onboarding Session - September
The orientation is scheduled once a month and is designed to give Temps:
An overview of the tools in Workday and IO that they will need to fulfill tasks such as filling out a time card or knowing how to access their benefits.
A guide to their rights and benefits under the Collective Agreement and the support the CMG offers Temps
Understanding the career resources and support offered by The Temp Project.
If you are interested in taking the onboarding session, please use your CBC email to sign up here in Workday for future sessions. You need to include the name of your current manager/supervisor so that you can be released for the training if you are scheduled to work that day. Please let them know you are signing up for the on-boarding. Once your registration and release is confirmed, we will send you an email with the calendar invitation to attend the course virtually.
Summer Job Hunting Tips
Summer is the busy season for temp work at the CBC as permanent employees go on summer annual leaves. Some of you may have secured work in one location or department for most of the summer which is fantastic. If you have gaps in your summer work schedule and are available for work, then here’s some tips you are use as you look for work.
Go where there are fewer Temps. Toronto, Vancouver and Halifax have the greatest number of Temps. So branch out and consider working in other locations where you are willing to relocate for a job. There is a real need for short term backfill in many locations.
If you are able to relocate, reach out to the CBC hiring leaders across Canada to express an interest to work with them. Include a C.V. and a CBC reference. Send them an email and if you don’t hear back, follow up with a call. Depending on the job and the location it may be possible to have some of your costs for relocation subsidised. It is certainly appropriate to raise this when discussing the assignment if you get an offer.
Check out the Jobs Page on the Temp Website for posted jobs on the CBC Jobs Portal and the Temp Job Board.
Reach out to Temp Supporters to get advice on jobs or how to get more experience.
If you are unable to find work by networking at the CBC, you do have the right to work outside the CBC as a Temp as long as the work you are doing doesn't create a conflict of interest with your ongoing work at the CBC. For more information, you can watch this video explaining your right to work outside and how and when you need to inform your supervisor.
Halifax Radio Producer Mary-Catherine McIntosh is a Temp Supporter who remembers the ups and downs of Temping at the CBC. On November 14, 2024 she joined forces with four other Temp Supporters in Halifax to organize a meet up with Temps in the main kitchenette area. The supporters brought refreshments.
The event attracted 10 Temps.
Mary-Catherine wrote, "Being a casual worker can be unpredictable, lonely - and hard! This meet-up gave us a chance to let our temp co-workers know we care and are here to help! Some of us didn't even know everyone's name before today. We even left a few minutes for venting (of course!) "
Thank you to all the Temp Supporters in Halifax who organised this event!
We are hoping there will be many more opportunities for Temps to meet their Supporters in locations across the country. You don't have to wait for an event to get your questions answered. If you want to connect with someone in your region, check out the Temp Supporters here.
Thank you Mary-Catherine for the photos!
